CCHRC is a testing ground for what is possible and what is practical in cold climate housing. Our building addition demonstrates both cutting edge technologies, like trapping the sun's energy in the summer to heat the building in the winter, and elements that apply to every homeowner-like an energy efficient envelope and good mechanical system. Through high-efficiency construction, and harnessing solar, geothermal and biomass fuels, the 22,000-square-foot Research and Testing Facility is approaching net-zero energy in a subarctic climate.
